Pencil Case
Second year - 2019
Metal project
In this project we focused on metals and what it means to work with them. The objectives of that project was to acquire a broad, deep understanding of the materials, learning materials’ features and qualities, and learning relevant techniques and technologies concerning industrial mass production.
The assignment began with seeking various technologies and understanding their advantages.
I chose to design a pencil case - by using a stainless steel sheet and applying cutting and bending techniques. Immersing myself into many tries of working with stainless steel sheet,
I learned the advantages of working with this material in particular, as well as understanding the limitation of working with it. I have learned that working with stainless steel sheet allows flexibility as well as structural firmness and solidity.
In my design, I had to be thoughtful about an accurate planning of the cutting and bending, considering pressure points while bending and stretching the steel sheet. It allowed me to plan ahead the right template for a pencil case that would be also functional. In my design, I emphasized the usability of the case in terms of how the case owner would experience this product. It was my intention to make that accounter exciting and playful which are reflected in how the end-user will open and close the case.
